Types of Natural Headache Cures

Most people have experienced a headache at some point in time. The natural reaction for most people is to take an over the counter medication to help eliminate the pain. However, there are many types of natural remedies that should be tried first before a medication is taken. If you suffer from migraines or cluster headaches then these natural remedies often times do not work. If you suffer from regular headaches that are caused by muscular contractions or vascular irregularities then you should consider trying a natural remedy the next time you get a headache instead of reaching for some medication.

The first natural remedy that should be tried is the cold compress. This is a great way to relieve headaches that are caused by allergies, sinuses and caffeine. When you lie down and have the cool water on your forehead this will help your muscles from contracting too hard.

Another great way to relieve some headaches is with aromatherapy. Many of the aromas such as lavender have qualities in them that are known to relax muscles. There are a variety of aromatherapy bath products that can be purchased at most drug stores or department stores.

There are many other ways that you can help cure a headache naturally. More and more people are using acupuncture as a natural way to cure headaches. It is especially popular among those who get stress headaches. Taking a nap has also been known to help get rid of headaches. Eucalyptus also has natural healing powers. If you put some in with your humidifier the natural healing elements will be released into the air and can help cure a headache. Avoiding any type of bright lights will often times relieve a headache. Other natural methods are gently rubbing the temples or gently applying pressure to the bridge of your nose. In addition you should try to reduce your caffeine intake and reduce your stress levels.

Many people have also discovered that herbs and alternative methods can help reduce headaches. There is a lot of research about these alternative medications that is published on the internet. Many doctors will not suggest this as an option so you must do the research yourself.

The main thing that you need to know about relieving headaches in a natural way is understanding what is causing the headache. Most times stress is a contributing factor to a headache. This is where taking a nap or using aromatherapy products will help to eliminate your headaches. Sometimes it is difficult to reduce your stress levels so it is important to take some time to naturally heal your body. Bright lighting is also a cause of headaches or can simply be more irritating to a headache. Be sure that you have proper lighting in the rooms where you spend most of your time. Florescent lighting is one of the worst things for a headache so you should be sure to avoid this as much as possible.
